A Play, A Pie and A Pint announces cast of The Swansong
A Play, A Pie and A Pint has announced the cast of new musical The Swansong by Eve Nicol & Finn Anderson, performing in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ayr this March.
Based on the radio play by David Greig, The Swansong is a wild and soulful musical about a desperate young woman, Lydia, who finds herself in the company of a smooth-talking swan as he takes her on an extraordinary night out in an Edinburgh mixed in myth and reality, where they learn what it truly means to be alive.
Paul McArthur (The Choir of Man) and Julia Murray (Wild Rose) will star as the swan and Lydia respectively, and will be accompanied on stage by Dale Parker on piano, with Rachel Duns (Scottish Jazz Awards Rising Star) on saxophone.
The Swansong will be directed by Eve Nicol, who also wrote the book, featuring original music and lyrics by Finn Anderson, whose acclaimed folk musical Ballad Lines (co-created with Tania Azevedo) is currently performing at London’s Southwark Playhouse.
Nicol said: “This is a show about finding connections in unexpected places and choosing to live when you’ve given up on life. There are themes of loneliness and longing, and the power of a good song to change all that. Audiences can expect a soulful, screwball new musical with characters you root for, that’ll tickle them as much as it tugs on the heartstrings.”
The Swansong will premiere at Glasgow’s Òran Mór (9-14 March) and will tour to Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh (17-21 March) and The Gaiety, Ayr (26-28 March).
