Cast announced for ‘Breathtaking Roads

Òran Mór, Glasgow: Mon 25 – Sat 30 May 2026
King’s Theatre, Kirkcaldy: Tue 2 – Sat 6 June 2026

A Play, A Pie and A Pint has announced the cast of its upcoming drama Breathtaking Roads, co-presented with Stellar Quines, which will perform in Glasgow and Kirkcaldy as part of its current Spring season.

Set on the Isle of Skye, 100 miles from the nearest Tesco, this coming-of-age play is about the friendship between a young islander, Ruari, and two fearless lesbian bikers, that becomes frayed as difficult conversations around identity are brought up.

Titled playfully after a Scottish Government ‘safe motorbiking’ campaign, Breathtaking Roads is a touching drama about finding ourselves in the most surprising of places, and taking risks in life and love…with leathers on.

Ros Watt (Macbeth, The Outrun) will play the lead role of Ruari and will be joined by Liz Kettle (Dracula: Mina’s Reckoning) and Jill Riddiford (People in Cages) who will play bikers Helen and Jane respectively.

This is the A Play, A Pie and A Pint debut for writer Ryan Hay, who was previously the Tron Theatre’s Writer-In-Residence and has been commissioned by Eden Court and the Edinburgh International Book Festival. It will be directed by Stellar Quines’s Artistic Director Caitlin Skinner, whose recent directorial credits include Through The Mud by Apphia Campbell and Frankie Stein by Julia Taudevin.

Breathtaking Roads will premiere at Oran Mor, Glasgow (25-30 May) and will tour to the King’s Theatre in Kirkcaldy (2-6 June), in A Play, A Pie and A Pint’s first-ever visit to the Kingdom of Fife.
