REVIEW: Alfie Boe – Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
Alfie Boe returns to the stage in Glasgow to deliver a hugely personal live show to promote his latest album Face Myself. Known for not holding back on the more challenging aspects of his life, this show based on the introspective album, explores many highs and lows to deliver a message of hope.
The set up is more rock group than theatre orchestra with Boe strumming along with lead guitarist Murray Gould and the heavily bearded backing band (think ZZ Top in their prime).
The set list is diverse, there are Country tinged songs, some Italian classics, a little bit of musical theatre, as well as pop standards from the 50s to the present day. While fans of Boe’s operatic and musical theatre material may be disappointed, the set list does do justice to the full range of his much lauded voice and perennial favourite Bring Him Home is of course included.
A break from the expected Alfie Boe show but an entertaining evening none the less.
