REVIEW: The Overtones: Good Times Tour – Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

The affable quartet are back on best form as they hit Glasgow with their Good Times tour – a mix of greatest hits from the 60s to the present day with a few Christmas classics thrown in to kick start the festive season.

Many familiar favourites from their repertoire remain in the set list. As an act they are astute and experienced enough to know what works and exactly what their audience wants. There are a few original Overtones songs that sit well among the big hits and a few well-known tunes with original arrangements to suit the vocal style of the band. Of particular note are alternative versions of Walking In The Air and The Proclaimer’s 500 Miles (which is given the ballad treatment).

There are changes of pace and tone throughout, and a sequence of chat where the band discuss their personal journey to this point, but the upbeat bops far outweigh the quieter moments, and without a doubt these moments land better with the up-for-a-party Glasgow audience.

The energy levels are high throughout and there’s no doubting their commitment to delivering the highest quality show. There’s also no doubt in their gratitude and affection for their fans and their fans for them (evidenced by Dutch fans in front of me and Thai fans beside).

This is good old-fashioned showmanship of the highest quality and all the better for it. Sometimes all you need is an uplifting evening of pure entertainment to chase away the blues in our troubled world.

The band continue touring the UK The Overtones | Good Times 2024 Christmas Tour

The band are supported on this tour by Britain’s Got Talent finalist Tom Ball.
