A brand-new jukebox musical celebrating some of the most iconic singer-songwriters of the 20th Century comes to The Gaiety Theatre in Ayr on Friday 20 July as part of a UK tour.

California Dreamers – The Story of Laurel Canyon takes audiences on a musical journey though the magical 60’s and the psychedelic 70’s; telling the true story of the small community in the foothills of Los Angeles that became home to some of the biggest selling artists of all time.

Featuring hits from legends such as The Mamas and Papas, The Byrds, The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Linda Rondstadt, Carole King, The Monkees, and many more, it promises to be an unforgettable night of live music.

The 6-piece live band will perform all the greatest hits from these musical geniuses that changed the music of a generation, and who have collectively racked up over 40 Grammy awards, countless No. 1 Hits and millions of album sales around the world.

As well as featuring million selling hit songs the show also includes authentic archive film footage, presents real life stories of the events which rocked the world, and the relationships that inspired those who lived in the Canyon to write and produce the classic hits that defined a generation.

Music fans in East Renfrewshire will be rocking around the clock this summer with huge hits, good vibrations and award-winning performances at Eastwood Park.

The venue is celebrating its Sapphire anniversary year with a whole host of great music lined up to celebrate 45 years of bringing big performances to the local area.

Queen’s Brian May hailed The Bluejays ‘a wonderful band’ and they’ll be showcasing their talents on Friday June 29, for a historical journey through the biggest hits of the late 1950s, an era that changed the music world forever. Featuring artists including Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry, The Bluejays tell the story of the Rock ‘n’ Roll movement, bringing a dream of equality and freedom.

If you can’t get enough of Elvis, catch a full night of his greatest songs on Sunday July 8 as highly acclaimed singer and musician Elio Pace performs a very special, intimate and unique concert to honour his musical idol, Elvis Presley.

NEWS: Casting confirmed for Fame in Glasgow

Selladoor Productions have confirm that Keith Jack, Mica Paris and Jorgie Porter will star in the new production of Fame which will run at the King’s Theatre, Glasgow from Monday 30 July until Saturday 4 August 2018.

Based on the 1980 phenomenal pop culture film, Fame – The Musical is the international smash-hit sensation following the lives of students at New York’s High School For The Performing Arts as they navigate their way through the highs and lows, the romances and the heartbreaks and the ultimate elation of life. This bittersweet but uplifting triumph of a show explores the issues that confront many young people today: prejudice, identity, pride, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance.

Keith Jack, playing Nick Piazza, is best-known as runner-up on BBC1’s Any Dream Will Do. His extensive theatre credits include: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK Tour) Only The Brave (Edinburgh Festival) Sincerely Mr Toad (Edinburgh/Greenwich) HMS Pinafore (UK Tour) Forever Plaid (St James Theatre, London) and many pantomimes across the UK. Keith’s concert appearances include performing for HM The Queen at the Parliament Picnic, Choices for Life, Lauder Live and BBC 2’s Friday Night is Music Night; Music, Music . He also has appeared on John Barrowman’s album tour, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Birthday Concert (Hyde Park) and BBC’s Songs of Praise.

Mica Paris who joins the cast as Miss Sherman is one of the UK’s most respected female singers with top 10 hit singles and albums worldwide spanning her 30 year career. Most recently, Mica recorded a new single in honour of Ella Fitzgerald with Guy Barker orchestra. A well-known face on TV Mica has appeared as a broadcaster and presenter on shows including BBC 1’s What Not To Wear. Gok Wan’s Miss Naked Beauty for Channel 4 and ITV’s CelebAir and is also a regular guest on ITV’s This Morning and Loose Women. Mica also played American Jazz Singer, Amelia Walker in At Bertram’s HotelMiss Marple for ITV Productions. She presented The Gospel of Gospel for Channel 4 and was also a contestant on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing 2006. Mica’s stage credits include Mama I Want To Sing, The Vagina Monologues and Sweet Lorraine in the West End and more recently Sylvia in the UK tour of Love Me Tender, based on the music of Elvis and Mama Morton in the UK Number one tour of Chicago.

Mica says; ‘The movie Fame was a big favourite of mine because it really was the first glimpse of what the beginning process of becoming trained artist entailed – I’m so happy to be in the musical!’

Jorgie Porter, playing Iris Kelly, is best known for her role as Theresa McQueen in the Channel 4 drama serial Hollyoaks. Her nominations include Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards and Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards. She played the role of Miss Croft in BBC1’s highly acclaimed remake of Are You Being Served.

Jorgie was a contestant on the seventh series of Dancing On Ice on ITV and made it all the way to the final where she finished runner up, returning for Dancing On Ice: Champion Of Champions. Jorgie has also starred in many award-winning shows including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! (ITV), Lip Sync Battle (Channel 5) & Celebrity First Dates in aid of Stand Up To Cancer (Channel 4).

Jorgie says: ‘I am so excited to be making my stage debut playing Iris Kelly in Fame. The musical is one of my favourite ever films and I can’t wait to open the show in Manchester, my home town. I’ve not had a chance to perform ballet for a long time, it’s what I originally trained in – so I’m looking forward to getting my ballet shoes on!’

NEWS: Mugstock acts revealed

Mugdock Country Park will once again be hosting Mugstock Festival for it’s fourth year in a row. During the last weekend of July (27-30th) an exciting and eclectic mix of over 100 artists will entertain festival goers of all tastes.

Over 150 acts have been announced and will grace Mugstock’s 7 stages this summer. Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 and The Girobabies are among acts returning to the stage adding to the diverse but popular crowd pleasing line-up.

We are excited to announce a third wave of acts including Kid Canaveral, Roddy Woomble and Trongate Rum Riots who will be joining the likes of Glamour & The Baybes, Busker Rhymes and 100 Fables. With an array of genres including indie, folk, reggae, pop, dub and soul there will definitely something for everyone to revel in.

During the live music, festival goers can enjoy a variety of entertainment in the form of theatre, art, comedy, performance, crafts and food & drink.

This intimate festival is only 8 miles from Glasgow and is set in a charming, natural location. With an array of natural and built heritage onsite, patrons can take a break from the music and enjoy other parts of Mugdock Country Park.

What makes MugStock so remarkable is the fact that it is run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, on a not-for-profit basis. The festival receives support from funders allowing the organisers to keep ticket prices fair. Mugstock’s volunteers say they are motivated by the ‘sheer love of bringing lovely people together to have a great time in a beautiful place’.

‘We pride ourselves on being as inclusive, accessible and family friendly as possible’ said programming director Nelson. ‘Whether you have never been to a festival before or are a seasoned festival goer you will feel right at home at Mugstock’.

Colonel John Thomas McMustard from headliners Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 has said ‘It’s great to be back at MugStock! We played the first two and we and The 6th Dijon loved them! It’s great to see such a unique boutique festival growing. We missed last years, so we’re really happy to get back this year. There’s lots of cool things happening for families throughout the site as well as all the great bands playing. We know the organisers put a lot of love and attention to detail into it. We’re headlining the Friday night which is an amazing slot to have. We will get the party going and guarantee fun, laughter , banging tunes and lots of dancing! Peace, love and Mustard.’

NEWS: First Acts Announced for MugStock Festival

MugStock festival have announced the first of over 150 acts to perform at the annual festival of Music & Merriment in Mugdock Country Park.

In it’s fourth year, MugStock is the closest festival of music and camping to Glasgow and takes place from Friday 27th – Monday 30th July 2018.

The acts so far announced reinforce MugStock’s commitment to musical diversity and emerging talent.
The first acts to be announced are:

  • Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5
    • Founders of the Yellow Movement, Glasgow’s shiny disco ball hat wearing, unicorn crowd surfing, genre hopping entertainers have been captivating audiences across the UK and recently as far afield as Korea with their unforgettable stage show.Winners of the SAMA’s (Scottish Alternative Music Awards) Best Live Act they are guaranteed to bring a party like no other to our main arena on Friday night at MugStock.
  • Tide Lines
    • Highly Eclectic Folk Rock formed by 2 ex-Skipinnish. Tide Lines emerged just over a year ago. They released their Far Side of the World single in 2016 and its lyrical theme the connection between youth and location formed the basis for their first full length album: Dreams We Never Lost which featured original Waterboy and current Saw Doctor Anthony Thistlewaite was released in June 2017.
      • Video has had nearly 15,000 views since it’s release on 1st February!
  • Girobabies
    • Girobabies give you baffling grunge soul music with a dollop of psychedelic dystopian elbow-grease and a pinch of gutter-rock Utopian lyricism. The Glasgow based band’s debut album ‘Who Took Utopia?’ was released to critical acclaim. Sorely missed from the festival scene in 2017 Girobabies are set to make a triumphant return
  • Emily Middlemas
    • Emily is from Glasgow has been performing since the age of 10 and at 13 she reached the Scottish and Northern England open mic final. She won Teenstar in 2014 and the same year she made it to the judge’s house in the X-Factor. At 18 she made it to the final of X-Factor and finished 4th place, soon after that she was part of a sell out UK arena X-Factor tour.

      Since the X-Factor Emily’s career has been going fantastic. In 2017 she performed the opening song for the Scottish Grand National at Ayr Race Course to 17000 people which went out live on ITV and performed at many high profile corporate events such as Miss Scotland Final, Business for Scotland awards, Cash For Kids, William Hill Awards, Young Scot Awards, QTS Ladies Night at Ayr Race Course and many, many more!

      Last November Emily completed her debut UK tour with most dates sold out and also released her debut single “Lost and Found” which received an amazing response and reached number 48 in the singles charts.

      With two tours currently being booked for this year, festival slots confirmed, debut album being released and appearing at many more high profile events, 2018 is going to be another great year for Emily.

  • Katee Kross
    • Katee Kross is an 19 year old singer/songwriter from Bishopbriggs. Katee is already making a name for herself in the music scene and has already supported people like Dougie MacLean Barbara Dickson Karine Polwart James Grant John Doyle Findlay Napier and Tony McManus.
      In October 2016 she was invited by American Country/Blues Legend Seasick Steve to sing his song Purple Shadow Live on stage at Wembley Arena in front of 12,500 people.

    • Dark pop from Edinburgh with 2 critically acclaimed albums and 4 EPs under their belt
