WHAT’S ON OCTOBER: KELVIN JONES TO SUPPORT KOVIC ON UK TOUR COMING TO THE GARAGE in OCTOBER
Zimbabwean born, UK raised singer-songwriter Kelvin Jones will support pop artist Kovic, on his 2019 October UK tour.
As one of the busiest and most highly sought after live artists, Kelvin’s global success all started with the viral, and certified gold, single ‘Call You Home’. With multiple international syncs (including a CenturyLink commercial aired during the Superbowl and a spot on the UK TV show Cold Feet), he features as the sound of Nescafe Poland (view the commercial HERE) and is also the voice of eBay Germany’s 20th anniversary campaign.
On this tour Kelvin will perform hits from his debut album ‘Stop the Moment’, and will premiere tracks from his upcoming 2020 album, including the huge BBC Introducing championed current single ‘Lights On’. Audiences can expect a show-stopping set as recently seen at Oceanfest.
When asked about touring Kelvin said: “Doing the tour last year and seeing how almost every show was sold out… It’s like this visible sign that I’m on the right track,” he explains. “How the songs translated live was a big factor when I was writing the material for my new album. I wanted the songs to live outside the studio, and for fans to be able to sing along to them.” This year alone, Kelvin has toured as main support with Amy Shark, Nico Santos and Alvaro Soler, as well as his own headline shows, playing to hundreds of thousands of people across Europe.
‘Lights On’ signals Kelvin’s triumphant return, and a deeper exploration of his pop potential. Speaking about what inspired him to write ‘Lights On’, Kelvin says that; “It’s is the reason I make music. The main line; ‘I’m gonna love you with the lights on’ is, about not hiding someone’s past, flaws, or hurts, but seeing them fully and loving them anyway. Without going into detail, I went through several things that left me starving to shout this out to the world. My aim with all my new material is to put something real there, something that people can connect with and be moved by. And the fact that I get a lump in my throat when I sing ‘Lights On’ makes me feel confident that other people will have the same experience”
As is evident, Kelvin’s schedule is moving at breakneck speeds with no sign of slowing leading up to his second album and a full band tour. While his debut album is one that any young artist would be proud of, Kelvin has evidently pushed himself even further with his new music – both vocally and lyrically. “I feel each song on this record will stand out on its own,” he says, “rather than there being a big overarching theme. It’s a snapshot of how I feel now.”
Soulful ballads are just one facet of an album that will showcase Kelvin’s unique understanding of what music fans crave in 2019: songs they can relate to, of course, but also ones that make them forget their troubles. “When I toured last year I realised I had one box ticked, which was that I could see couples holding hands,” Kelvin says, adding with a laugh: “But what I really wanted to do was write a song that made people dance their asses off!”
His second gold single was presented on June 15th 2019 for his number 1 hit “Only Thing We Know” co-written and performed with Alle Farben, and helped bolster his monthly listens on Spotify into the millions, with overall listening figures in the hundreds of millions.
Growing up listening to Oasis, Kelvin developed an ear for massive choruses and big hooks… “songs you can’t help but sing along to”. Years later, he saw Ed Sheeran live and admired the way he got the crowds singing along to every word: “Being able to write songs that people connect with that much, that’s what I wanted to do,” he says.
