WHAT’S ON DECEMBER: Aladdin at Ayr Gaiety

Christmas wishes will be granted at The Gaiety with this year’s pantomime Aladdin. From the 27th November until the 3rd January 2019, take a magic carpet ride with all the family and experience an adventure full of flare, action and romance.

M A Productions are returning with the traditional festive story, complete with all the classic characters. Will the flamboyant dame, Widow Twankey, played by Michael Courtney, finish her washing in time? Not without the help of the loveable Wishee Washee, played by Dan Whitley.

Will the witty hero Aladdin (Kieran Begley), have all his wishes come true, and will the beautiful Princess Jasmine (Lorna Amy Sullivan) fall in love with him? He will first need to defeat the evil and wicked sorcerer Abanazer (Liam Webster) with the aid of the mystical Genie of the Lamp (Robert Aitken) and the resourceful Slave of the ring (Courtney Dignan). Will it all work out as planned? Or will hilarious disasters and fabulous plot twists crop up along the way!

All will be revealed in this spellbinding pantomime full of live music, magic and mayhem, special effects, breath-taking sets, loads of laughs and lavish costumes. The perfect Christmas treat for all the family and is guaranteed to be the biggest of them all!

Michael Courtney

Michael is from Lincoln and has been in the entertainment industry for over thirty years. He has produced, written and directed over thirty Pantomimes. He has written and directed shows including Mad About The Musicals, It’s D’Lovely – UK Tour, Waterloo and Shakin’ All Over, the UK tour of A Night Of Musicals and Love Changes Everything. 2016 saw him performing in the 10th Anniversary tour of Mad About The Musicals with Gareth Gates and 2017’s tour finished in October when Jai McDowall joined him.

 

Lorna Amy Sullivan

Lorna has been working in Theatre, Film and Television since she graduated in Professional Musical Theatre from the Urdang Academy, London, in 2008. Credits include the UK Tour of Dreamboats and Petticoats, and BBC’s Cardiff’s Hidden Histories. Lorna won Best Actress Award in 2016’s International Film Festival for Best Horror – Angel of Death and is the Assistant Artistic Director at Ultimate Artistes, for whom she also works in the UK and Internationally as a Tribute to Britney Spears – ‘Ultimate Britney’.

 

Liam Webster

After saying goodbye to Prince Charming last Christmas, Liam has been on a number 1 Italian tour of Robin Hood the Musical playing the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. He has previously appeared in roles such as Macbeth in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Captain Hook in Peter Pan and Weasel in Wind in the Willows with the Chapterhouse Theatre Company.

 

Dan Whitley

Jersey born Dan trained at the Academy of Live and Record Arts (ALRA) in London. Daniel runs his own successful kid’s entertainment production company Dantastic Productions! He has performed in theatre and pantomimes for over a decade and has played various characters at Disneyland Resort Paris. In 2012 he worked with the Coca Cola Olympic Showcasing team at the London Olympic Park. Daniel spent a year performing in a kids pop group called ‘The GO!GO!GO! Show’, with a total of 500 successful performances.

 

Kieran Begley

Kieran graduated in 2016 on the Masters Musical Theatre Programme at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Since graduating, he has performed in various pantomimes, musicals, concerts, operas and plays throughout Scotland. Theatre credits include It’s a Wonderful Life by No Nonsense Productions, A Night of Broadway by Capall Dorcha, 9 to 5 by RCS, HMS Pinafore by Carl Rosa Opera, and Cinderella at the Beacon Arts Centre.

 

Robert Aitken

Robert graduated in Acting from Motherwell College and also has a Degree in Education from the University of Edinburgh. He has worked on many productions and toured with Baldy Bane Theatre Company and with Kapow Theatre Scotland. His most notable performances were Dracula at Cottiers Theatre, Jack and the Beanstalk at Hamilton Townhouse and Rapunzel at Aros Theatre.

 

Courtney Dignan

Courtney is a recent graduate from the Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre Arts. Since graduating she had been in Vivo D’Arte’s production of Jonathan Larsons hit show ‘Rent’ at the Frogmore Paper Mill in London where showed off her vocals as Seasons of love soloist and ensemble. She then went onto being cast as Widow Corny in the Production of Oliver at the Aylesbury Theatre.
