A few years ago, a young composer called Michael Bruce won The Stage’s Notes for The Stagecompetition, as a result of which his entry, Children, was heard as part of the 2007 Christmas in New York concert at the West End’s Lyric Theatre.
Besides Andrew Lloyd Webber, hardly any British composers of new musicals are ever heard so it’s great to see a talent such as Michael Bruce have a chance to showcase his skills to a greater audience.
His album Fifteen Songs (above) has attracted the great and good of the West End to sing his compositions.
If you can, check out Julie Atherton’s version of In a Disney Way over on YouTube.
The future of British musical theatre is safe.
